Hugs Ministry
"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." - 1 John 4:7-8
This Hug’s for you!
Piney Grove Church’s Hugs Ministry
HUGS Ministry was created in 2018 under the umbrella of Piney Grove Women. The name of this ministry literally came from a strong desire to reach out and give a HUG in the form of cards, calls, visits, prayers, and gifts to those around us who could use a little TLC.
The committee, comprised of Piney Grove circle members, meets monthly to discuss the names on our list and choose an appropriate card for their situations. Our list includes those who are hospitalized, bereaved, lonely, divorced, etc. In this world of so much electronic media, it seems “special” to find a handwritten, carefully-selected card in the mailbox.
A few details about our group: We send more than 1,000 cards per year; quarterly cards are sent to those 80 years of age and up. We recognize those who have lost family members with appropriate cards at the end of October–for ALL SAINTS commemoration– and special veterans’ cards are sent in November. Once or twice per year, we send beautiful, handmade cards—such as on Easter, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. We also make or purchase gifts for specified recipients—and hand-deliver those gifts– for Easter and Christmas.
Not all the names on our list are Piney Grove members—but the names come from Piney Grove people who know someone needing a HUG. We have several names of people who live out of state. If not for YOU, we would not have a list of people needing cards. If you know of someone who needs to be included on our list, please let one of our committee members know. We do need you to make sure that the person you are referring to us is agreeable to receiving prayers and cards—and, if their situation is confidential and not to be shared, we need to know that, as well. Confidentiality is stressed as we meet to discuss details in our meetings.
Serving those around us with love
Hugs Ministry seeks to reach out and “give a little hug” in the form of cards, visits, prayers, and gifts to those who could use a little TLC.
